It should be cleaned when you see sediment build-up on the bottom of the inner tank. To clean, unplug the unit, remove the lid and grille, and allow the paraffin to harden overnight. After wax hardens, plug the unit in for 10 minutes to melt the edges. Lay out paper towels, turn the unit upside down, and shake gently to release the wax.
