But the scholars at the Tree of Knowledge Library were attacked by agents of the World Government for violating the ban on studying the 100-year period of history known as "The White Century." Robin escaped the destruction of the island and has remained a fugitive ever since. Luffy and his crew are the only friends she's ever known, and she doesn't want them to get caught in the government's campaign to imprison her. She is the only person who can read the ancient Poneglyphs, and Franky has the only plans for the super-weapon they explain how to build. Episodes 279 through 283, which began the second half of the ninth season of One Piece in Japan, are flashback montages that trace the other characters' histories, beginning with Luffy's encounter with noble pirate Captain Red Shanks, who gave him his trademark straw hat. The adventure picks up again in episode 284, as Granny Kokoro delivers the Straw Hats to the inner donjon of Enies Lobby by crashing her seatrain into the building. Nami, Zoro, Chopper, Sanji, and Usopp (still disguised as Sogeking) tackle the redoubtable but bizarre members of CP9 squad while Luffy chases Spandam and Lucci, who have locked Robin in handcuffs that cancel her Devil Fruit powers. Kaku and Jabura of the CP9 previously ate unknown Devil Fruit: now the results appear, providing both comedy and menace.
