Wood vs Plastic - Smart Choice, Better Value Many people have molded wood seats (photo at left) and think plastic is bad. But for harsh environments, such as bathrooms, high- quality polypropylene (plastic) is much better for several reasons. Polypropylene is non-porous and will not absorb moisture or germs. In addition to being more sanitary, polypropylene is chemical and stain resistant, extremely durable and lasts much longer than painted wood. (This is why polypropylene is always specified in public restrooms.) Bath Royale seats are made of 100% virgin (not recycled), high-quality polypropylene which is softer, yet stronger than low-quality recycled polypropylene and painted wood. With proper care, the beautiful high-gloss finish will last for years. Extremely Durable - Bath Royale seats are a solid color throughout and will not chip, peel or fade. Softer and "Feels" Warmer - Polypropylene is softer and more comfortable than stiff molded wood. It "feels" warmer to touch because it is a thermal insulator (like plastic coating on a wire) which does not conduct heat. Stronger - Bath Royale seats are designed and tested to hold 400 pounds (on the closed lid and the seat itself). With The cover (lid) open, a "sway" test presses one side of the seat, then the other (back and forth) 26,000 times with 350 pounds. The seat and cover will flex, but will not crack, break or permanently deform. Installation is not difficult, but it is VERY DIFFERENT from other seats. All parts and step-by-step instructions are included with your seat. The only tool needed is a phillips head screw driver. STEPS: Remove old seat (if necessary). Install mounting bases (included) on the toilet, not the seat. (Do not tighten, yet.) Attach seat to mounting bases. Adjust seat's position on bowl for a perfect fit, then tighten screws. NOTE: Mounting bases must be rotated so the posts face the FRONT OF THE TOILET BOWL (not the tank). Otherwise, your seat will appear too short (see diagram at left). Slow-close DOES NOT WORK until seat is installed on the toilet. DO NOT WORRY if the mounting holes in your toilet do not match (or align with) the holes in your seat. (They’re not supposed to.) Some 1-piece toilets or bowls with a concealed trapway (aka flat sides or "skirted" bowl) require "top mount" hardware (sold separately).   Mounting Base Covers - Coordinate Colors & Finishes Bath Royale toilet seats come with 2 sets of mounting base covers to coordinate with colors and finishes in your bathroom.
