The unit operates on AA batteries so it does not require a plug in. The compartments are also removable if you want to only take the scheduled dose with you. Note - Without taking the main unit you will not have anyway of being notified of that scheduled dose. Are there missed pill notifications? No. The alarm will repeat every 30 minutes until the medication is taken. However, there is not a transmitter in the device to allow notifications to be sent out.
