Description:
Product description The Art Of The Prima Donna - Joan Sutherland / Arne, Handel, Billini, Rossini, Gounod, Verdi, Mozart, Thomas, Meyerbeer, Delibes / London Records 2x Audio CD 1989 / 425 493-2 UPC 02894549326 /// Dame Joan Alston Sutherland, OM, AC, DBE (7 November 1926 – 10 October 2010) was an Australian dramatic coloratura soprano known for her contribution to the renaissance of the bel canto repertoire from the late 1950s through to the 1980s. She possessed a voice combining extraordinary agility, accurate intonation, "supremely" pinpoint staccatos, a trill and a tremendous upper register, although music critics complained about her poor diction. Sutherland was the first Australian to win a Grammy Award, for Best Classical Performance – Vocal Soloist (with or without orchestra) in 1962. /// Label: London Records – 425 493-2 Format: 2 x CD Country: US Released: 1989 Genre: Classical Style: Opera /// Tracklist: 1-1 Artaxerxes: "The Soldier Tir'd" Composed By – Arne 1-2 Samson: "Let The Bright Seraphim" Composed By – Handel 1-3 Norma: Recit. But looking through a century of recorded sound, not a single recording is a clearly better coloratura example. Joan Sutherland's voice is young, fresh, agile, superbly controlled, and rich in tone. To ask for more expressive power would be missing the point; that is not what this music is about. It is perfectly chosen to display the best qualities of Sutherland's voice at its peak. --Joe McLellan
