Lodge pays tribute to the rich tradition of American exploration with this commemorative Lewis & Clark Dutch oven kit. Outfitted with an 8-quart Dutch oven, a custom iron cover embossed with classic Northwest Passage graphics, and a Lewis & Clark cookbook, the kit features everything you need to re- create the expedition experience while camping. The cookbook not only contains a host of authentic frontier-style recipes, but also includes historical information on the voyage. The real heart of the kit, however, is the Dutch oven, which is made of preseasoned cast iron. Whether making a stew or a camping casserole, the pan delivers a smooth, consistent temperature without wasting heat. The pan's esteemed heat retention is especially ideal for slow- cooking recipes that call for tender meats and vegetables and rich, seasoned flavors. Lodge puts each Logic pan through a proprietary "electrostatic" vegetable oil spray system, which thoroughly seasons it and prepares it for cooking right out of the box. During the timesaving preseasoning process, oil penetrates deeply into the cast-iron surface while a high-temperature gas oven seals it in, preserving the cookware for generations and creating an attractive heirloom finish. As with all of Lodge's camping cookware, the bottom of the pan also features a quartet of integral legs for campfire and fireplace cooking. In addition, the flanged lid inverts for use as a griddle, making it ideal for morning flapjacks and sausages. With proper care, Lodge Logic cast-iron cookware will last a lifetime. Lodge recommends hand washing the oven, which carries a lifetime warranty, with a stiff brush and hot water.
