The FitzRoy's Storm Glass from Lily's Home is a mysterious phenomenon, utilized by meteorologist Admiral Robert FitzRoy as he sailed in the 18th century, most notably as captain of the HMS Beagle during Charles Darwin's famous voyage. A special combination of liquids inside the glass tube is able to predict weather changes with the appearance of streaks, cloudiness, flakes and crystals. According to FitzRoy’s findings, this glass barometer forecasts weather based on changes in the formation of crystals inside the glass. Clear liquid predicts bright and clear weather. Cloudy liquid indicates cloudy weather, perhaps with precipitation. Small dots in the liquid indicates humid or foggy weather. Cloudy glass with small stars indicates thunderstorms. Small stars in the liquid indicates sunny winter days. Large flakes throughout the liquid means you can expect snow. Crystals at the bottom indicate frost. Threads near the top indicate windy weather. The glass tube measures 5.5", with an overall height of 7" when the cherry finished wood frame is considered. You can use this Storm Glass indoors or out. Note 1: Since this storm glass is just an indication of weather condition it may not be as accurate as Barometer or Actual Meteorological Forecast. Note 2: The Storm Glass may need one or two weeks for the crystal to stabilize and adapt to the environment. If you want to see the test result, it can be placed in the refrigerator and frozen for 30 minutes to 1 hour, and observe the effects.
